LIBRARY

You are invited to visit the newly redecorated First Baptist Church Media Center!  Here you will find print and non-print resources that will appeal to all ages and interests.
Adult fiction is one of our most popular sections.  New additions to this area are “The Elm Creek Quilts” novels by Jennifer Chiaverini and “The Guardian” by Nicholas Sparks.
• A number of church members are enjoying our collection of audio books.  You may want to look for Anne Rice’s “Christ, the Lord, Out of Egypt ,” John Grogan’s “Marley and Me,” and Marilynne Robinson’s “Gilead.”
• We have recently been concentrating on building up the collection for older children.  Look for new biographies about Buffalo Bill, Amelia Earhart, and Thomas Edison.  New science holdings include “Volcano,” “Desert,” and “Rain Forest.”  And added fiction titles are by Mike Lupica and Katherine Paterson, among others.
• We also have a number of new easy books, including “The Trellis and the Seed” by Jan Karon and “Let Me Hold You Longer” by Karen Kingsbury.
• Of course, our collection is concentrated on providing titles that will enhance our Christian lives.  New nonfiction titles to aid in personal Bible study and Christian growth include “Further along the Road Less Traveled” by M. Scott Peck and “Searching for God Knows What” by Donald Miller.

The items listed above are only a fraction of the more than 2,000 resources that are available.  The Media Center Committee encourages you to pay us a visit soon.

Judy LeCroy, Lori Gilliam, Sheila Killebrew, Cateen Olive, Dolly Skinner, Myra Thacker, and Emogene Thomas.

A review of library procedure

  • You may check out an item any time that the church office is open by signing the book card with your name and the current date and leaving the card in the basket on the library desk.
  • Someone is available to help you with the online catalog, with finding appropriate items, and with checkout procedures on Wednesdays from 5-5:45 p.m. and on Sundays from 9:15-9:45 a.m.
  • Items may be checked out for three weeks, with the option of renewing, when necessary.
  • Sunday service tapes are found on a board at the rear of the library and have a checkout time of one week.

  • You can read the Biblical Recorder in the library. The current issue is displayed in the Periodicals section, which is on the shelves facing the entrance.

First Baptist members are now able to see a list of our library's resources online. There are more than 2,000 books, videos, audiobooks and kits listed.

Simply click this link to access the list. This service will:

  • Aid teachers in finding study resources
  • Help parents know what items are available for children
  • Assist readers in knowing what titles by favorite authors are in the collection
  • Provide ideas for meditative and recreational reading

This is not a complete catalog. For example, you will not be able to search for an item by subject as you can at the catalog station in the media center. But as you are viewing the list, you can search for a word within a title or an author's name by using the Find command of your browser. Under the Edit menu choose Find, then type one word for which you are searching. e.g. A search for "prayer" will show 56 titles that contain the word "prayer." The search option displayed at the top of the site's pages won't work on the list.
